Where, over the course of millions of years, the continents slowly drifted apart. The data collected by the Glomar Challenger highlights how this trend is continuing to take place. As a result, the information that was discovered has been used to help improve the understanding about what the ocean floor consists of and how continental drifts are occurring. Together, these two pieces of information highlight how oceanographers and scientists attempt to understand what factors are contributing to various natural disasters such as: earthquakes. The shifting of the ocean crust is one of the factors that have been causing the above types of situations to occur. When you have a greater understanding of the ocean crust, you have more insights as to what is shaping the world around us.
